Our client has an interesting experience when dealing with property agents in KL and Penang. Same country but different practices. In KL, the agent will collect the commission from the landlord or seller. In Penang, the commissions are split half-half between the tenant/landlord and seller/buyer. Very rare indeed that the buyer/tenant has to pay for the services but in Penang, it is due to "maintaining relationship" and the "duty of care" provided by the agent if the tenant has any issues. Do take note., especially for foreigners who are staying in Penang. We, as MM2H sponsors have to explain to them the differences.
